When I was in high school I used to participate in school plays.
Right before I was about to go on stage, it never failed – I used to get the same feeling…
That I was going to pee my pants!
My nerves (mixed with excitement) would get the best of me, and I’d stand there, legs crossed, willing the feeling to go away.
But as soon as it was my turn to walk on stage, the feeling would immediately go away. Once out there, I was totally fine and thankfully I forgot all about it!
The funny thing is, that to this day, I still get that feeling sometimes. And it’s always when I’m about to do something a little out of my comfort zone but yet something I’m excited about.
Anytime I’m considering doing something that I’m fearful of, I check in with myself.
I ask myself:
“Are you excited about this idea?”
“Does it make you want to pee your pants a little?”
If the answer to both is YES then I know it should be a go!
Oddly enough, those feelings are a perfect indicator to know that I’m on the right track.
Because doing something out of your comfort zone is scary business. But it’s also usually the most rewarding.
I’ve learned over time that just because something freaks me out a little bit, that it doesn’t mean I should avoid it.
I’ve also learned that if I let my fear stop me from trying things, that I wouldn’t do much of anything!
So let me ask you…
Is there something that is giving you the ‘pee your pants’ feeling?
If so, you’re not alone.
But just remember – you can stand there doing the wiggle dance.
You can get out there and make some magic happen!
